Week 4 Recap

This week has been full of fun and exciting and not so exciting things. In this blog I will be telling you all of the things that we did during the week, up to Thursday. On Monday we had speech finals, then on Tuesday we had school photos, Wednesday was Interschool Athletics day, and Thursday was just a normal day.

As I said Monday we had speech finals, and guess what??! I got in this year!! YAY!! My speech was on Martin Luther King Jr., and how he was a change maker since change makers was the speech topic. The speech finals was judged by Bevan Chatmen. Everyone did really well in the finals, and for me it actually not was not that scary at all once you got up on to the stage, and know I quite like to get up and give speeches. The top three for each year group, starting with year 4, was Aria with Recycle, Reduce, Reuse, then was Klara for year 5 on Kate Sheppard, and for year six it was really close, between Naia and I, but Naia got it for her speech on how YouTube is a big change maker. Then after that Bevan asked us to come outside for something on the radio the next day. You had to say your favorite bird, so I chose Kiwi, but then after I thought about it my favourite bird was actually a Kakapo.

On Tuesday, we had school photos. The photos were taken in a different place this time because Moana Learning Hub has the hall for their classroom because room 1+2 are getting renovated into a bigger classroom for two classes. We had the photos taken at the path way down to Wainui beach, between the trees near the car park. That was where we got our class photos taken. The individuals, and sibling photos, were taken at the back entrance of the medicine garden by room 10's deck. Me and my sister had all three of those taken, and because we were in Mapua when they had their photos taken, we now have two class photos, two individuals, and two sibling photos.

On Wednesday we had Interschool Athletics day. I thought that I had gotten into the team because I got third on ball through, and oh high jump. But aparrenttly there were to many girls or something in year six that got in throughout the whole of Gisborne, so I did not go. Boy! That was a confusing morning. Then in the end I ended up having a normal school day like everyone else.

On Thursday, there is nothing really exiting on, so everyone is just having a normal school day, with priorities, workshops, and everything else that you would do on a normal school day at Wainui Beach School.

This week has been full of fun and exciting things and not so fun and exciting things. From the looks of the calendar for next week, we have the upcoming craft fair and some testing to do, and work on. See you next week reader.

Term 4, Week 1 Recap

Wow! Already in week one we have had a super busy week of priorities, speech writing, a monarch show, down at the Wainui Surf Club, and then next week the year 6's are going to camp for three nights, then the week after that we have MLH speeches. This is going to be a jam packed term, with lots of exciting things to do all of the time.

On Tuesday we walked down to the Wainui Surf Life Saving Club to watch the Monarch. It was really cool, funny, and a really good experience, and I hope to do it again. The reason why we went down to the Wainui Surf Club, was because we were going to do it in the hall, but MLH has it as their classroom, because room 1 & 2 are getting renovated, and now room 1 is room 3. The Monarch show, was supposed to be in term 3, but because of Covid-19, we ended up changing it to happen in term 4. There were two people acting in it, so it was fiction mixed with real life knowledge about monarch butterflies.

Because I am a year 6, I will be attending the year 6 camp with all of the other year 6's in week 2 of this term. In week two, I will able to tell you all about camp from beginning to end. All that I know is that we will have camp at the Kennedy Park in Napier.

For speeches, my speech is about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - the civil rights activist, in the United States of America - and what he did to be a famous changemaker, helping people through segregation, and writing speeches to make sure that he could do what he could to make a change.

Everyone in MLH, will be giving their speeches to the class in week three, on wednesday, then we will have finals the day after, with the same judge as last year, Bevan for Breakfast on the radio, if I can remember correctly. I am a little nervous, as most people will be, because standing up in front of a lot of people and reading anything, can always be a little nerve-racking.

This term is surely going to be full of lots of surprises along the way, and exciting things that we will already know about that is going to be happening.

Mapua Recap

Have you ever been to Mapua, Nelson? If you have been to Nelson, or are going to Nelson, than you should check out Mapua. Mapua is a really cool place to live if you like to live in a place that is just off a main city. As you have probably guessed, I am going to be telling you about Mapua, seeing as I have lived there for three months.

The first thing that you should know about Mapua, is the activities that you can do there. There are so many activities that you can do there just in town, but you can also go into Richmond for going to the gym, swimming, and heaps of other things. In town you can go to the tennis courts, and play tennis, you can go to the skate park - although that is not a sport - and hang out with your friends, skate, scooter, or ride your BMX bike.

The second thing that you should know about Mapua is that there is an amazing school, and yes you guessed it is called Mapua School. If you decide to move to Mapua, you should definitely go to Mapua School if you are a Year 0 - Year 8. It is a primary school, but it also has - in a different syndicate, the Year 7 & 8's. Another thing about Mapua School, is that each two year group has a different syndicate. The youngest kids have their syndicate name as Juniors, then the Middles, thirdly the Seniors, and lastly the Intermediates.

The third thing that you should know about Mapua is what there is to do over the weekends. There are lots of things that you can do on the weekend. For example, you could go to a market. There are markets on both Saturday, and Sunday. On Saturday there is the Nelson Arts Market, and on Saturday there is the Motueka Farmers Market. Those are just a couple of things that you can do on the weekends, beside the other things that you can do for your activities.

Those are only some of the things that you can do in Mapua. Now I will be telling you about what thing I did in Mapua. The things that I did when I was in Mapua, was I went to Mapua school Monday to Friday, went swimming at the Richmond Aquatic Center on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. I also went to the Saturday and Sunday Markets. I loved going to the skate park and hanging out with my friends and skating and scootering, as well.  I also made some unforgettable memories with my friends and with what we did in Mapua.

I really enjoyed living in Mapua for those three months, I think that it was the perfect amount of time to spend there, and I hope that you, whoever is reading this, will some day visit Mapua, and see all of the wonderful things for them selves.
